Refill Stores in the Bay Area

Take a look at all of your personal care and household cleaning products. Are your cabinets full of plastic bottles? The next time you’re running low on personal care or cleaning supplies, look to refill those containers instead of buying brand new bottles. Refill shops have been popping up all over the Bay Area. Not only do these shops support the zero waste movement, but they are also locally owned and sell products that are healthier for both you, and the planet! Here are some refill shops in the Bay Area that are worth checking out:

  • The Source Zero in San Jose is a zero waste shop and soap refill boutique. This shop offers both personal care product refills and household cleaning product refills. They also sell locally made home goods from various women artisans based in the Bay Area and host zero waste workshops!
  • The Filler Up Shop in Morgan Hill strives to reduce single-use plastic by providing refill products that our good for our bodies, as well as the environment. This shop sells both body care product refills and household cleaning product refills.
  • Olive This Olive That in San Francisco refills olive oil bottles and offers a discount to customers who bring their own bottles. This shop is passionate about supporting small, local growers to help support local communities and minimize their ecological footprint.
  • The Re-Up Refill Shop in Oakland offers a range of ecological bath, body, cooking, kitchen, and cleaning products in refillable containers, reducing waste from single-use plastics. This shop is especially unique because they will deliver their products to Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, and Oakland customers via bike!
  • Fillgood in Berkeley is a refill shop which offers cleaning, laundry, and bathroom products. They also provide home deliveries for several Bay Area cities (see the list here). This shop carefully chooses their products to ensure that they only support companies whose values align with their own.
  • MudLab in Oakland is a zero waste cafe and grocery store whose goal is to make sustainability accessible, affordable, and convenient to people from all walks of life. They also work with the non-profit For Here, Please to help work with businesses in Oakland to phase out single-use plastics.
  • Ethos in Santa Cruz is a refill shop that also sells zero waste products. Their mission is to provide resources that help local community members adopt ethical and sustainable habits into their everyday lives.
  • Rainbow Grocery in San Francisco is the first bulk store that I shopped at! They have a wide selection of bulk foods and they also have some personal care product and household cleaning product refills.
